  Houseplants

Houseplants are the perfect indoor companions for winter and are a way to bring life and color into your home. We have a vast array of ferns, foliage, tropicals, and flowering plants as well as a great selection of cacti and succulents, all lovingly cared for in our greenhouses. Whether you are looking for foliage or flowers, terrarium plants or large indoor tree specimans, we have them all. Plus, we have new shipments arriving regularly so check back often for the latest varieties.
When choosing a houseplant plant, it is important to consider its watering, temperature, and light needs. The University of Illinois Extension has created a "Houseplants" Web site where you can learn about the various types of houseplants and their individual characteristics. Our greenhouse staff will also be happy to assist you with all of the information you need to select and care for plants into your home.

The Science of Houseplants

Scientists say that the air inside our homes can be several times more polluted than the air outdoors. According to the EPA, houseplants have been shown to reduce levels of indoor pollutants introduced by household cleaners and appliances. Through their natural process of respiration, houseplants filter out toxins while increasing oxygen levels and moisture, leaving the air cleaner and healthier to breathe.
Researchers have also discovered that just seeing greenery can result in a demonstrable reduction in stress within five minutes.
